The Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, the Hon Anthony Albanese MP announced on 20 March 2008 that as foreshadowed in the Governments key regional election commitments, Area Consultative Committees (ACCs) would provide the basis for the creation of Regional Development Australia (RDA).
Therefore ACCs will transition to become local Regional Development Australia committees. As a first step, the ACC Chairs Reference Group will become the RDA Interim Board until 31 December 2008.

| Regional Development Australia Report |
Southern Inland Queensland ACC has recently undertaken a consultation process with key stakeholders in the region. This process was designed to provide feedback to the Federal Government in relation to the establishment of the new Regional Development Australia statutory authority – due to commence on 1st January, 2009.

| Tara Kindergarten and Day Care Centre Opening |
The opening of the much awaited Tara Kindergarten and Day Care Centre was a happy occasion for young and old.
Around 30 people from the local community came to show their support and enjoy a sumptous morning tea courtesy of the Wheat Board.
The Hon Bruce Scott MP, Federal Member for Maranoa, conducted the official opening whilst mayor of Tara, Cr Philip Bougoure also addressed the audience.

| Defensive Driving Course |
Southern Inland Queensland ACC project officers individually travel around 50 000 kilometres each year. With that much time spent on the road it makes sense to ensure all staff are equipped with good safe driving skills.
To elevate everyone to the same standard, staff attended a day of defensive drinving at the Driving Management Australia Centre at Mt Cotton near Brisbane. Whilst staff described the experience as fun and exciting, they also found it very imporant and worthwhile.
